Training For Life
An appreciation of the obstacle.
In the West we often assume that just because yoga involves arranging the body into shapes, it must be a practice for the primary benefit of our physical being.
There is a strong physical aspect to the yoga practice. Postures (asana) help create strength and mobility, and help energy move more effectively through our body as a whole. As the body starts to awaken, heal, and enliven—it feels really good. The kind of goodness that touches the spirit.
It’s tempting and easy to stay within the physical domain of the practice. To prioritize yoga for the training of the body.
But the essence of yoga is not training the body. The essence of yoga is training for life.
